Spring Ready Vehicle Maintenance

Before we get too excited about warmer days, our cars need a spring make-over. Seasonal maintenance helps prolong the life of your car, and the following are a few of the things you should look at getting done in the springtime.

Wipers

The first thing you’ll want to look at is the wipers. The cold weather can be harsh on them and if you’re seeing streaks on your windshield while using your wipers, it’s a good sign that you need to replace your wipers.

Fluid Levels

Now that you replaced your windshield wipers, make sure your wiper fluid is topped off. Other fluids to check are the coolant system, transmission, brake, and power steering. If your fluids are low, we recommend bringing in your car for service. It could mean you have a leak.

Oil Change

Another level to check is your oil. In newer Honda’s, we recommend an oil change at 15% or once a year, whatever comes first under normal driving conditions. Oil changes are important for your car’s health. Also, by scheduling an oil change, our Quick Lube Technicians will check other important maintenance items like your filters and tires.

Tires

With the temperature fluctuating, your tire’s air pressure may be off. It’s common to see your tire pressure light turn on during season changes. So make sure to fill those tires and check their quality.

Under the Hood

Next, you’ll want to do a thorough check under your hood to make sure your car’s engine made it through the winter without problems. Specifically, check belts and hoses to ensure the cold temperatures haven’t rendered them brittle or heavily worn. Check your coolant to make sure it’s not too old. If you aren’t comfortable performing these checks on your own, contact us to schedule a service appointment.

Suspension & Alignment

If you’re bringing it here for service ask us to also check the suspension and alignment to make sure nothing is too far outside the manufacturer’s specifications.

Car Wash & Vacuum

And last but not least, we recommend you get your car a nice wash. During the winter months our cars go through a lot of salt, dirt, and grime, so it’s important to wash your car once winter is over. The salt, dirt, and grime can cause rust to form and other serious problems. You should also vacuum and clean out the interior. It will feel good to sit in a clean car and you’ll help prolong the life of your cloth/leather interior.
